Intelligent Eye Controlled Electric Wheelchair based on Gaze Tracking Technology

Xining Zhao, Nanjing Wei

Abstract

In response to the major problem of muscle atrophy and the fact that only the eyes can move freely throughout the body in patients
with ALS, this study designed and implemented an intelligent eye controlled electric wheelchair based on gaze tracking technology. The
system integrates the patients electrooculography and head posture to achieve motion control of the wheelchair, improving the convenience
and comfort of daily life operations for patients with ALS. In the experiment, the accuracy of the system can reach a level of 0.5cm and meet
their requirements. The study also designed a simple visual interface to make the operation more convenient. In addition, the system has been
tested for security and has certain guarantee capabilities.
