The Comparison of Individual Differences in Visual Memory Performance Tablet Based Drawing Task

Hongyu Tao

Abstract

This paper combines psychological research with advanced technology to explore differences in individual global(GPA)and local
visual processing abilities(LPA)and to investigate the characteristics of individuals with autistic traits in terms of visual memory and information processing. Modified Taylor Complex Figure(MTCF)was used as an experimental tool to explore the differences in visual processing
among individuals with autistic traits. The study focused on analyzing the two principal cognitive theoretical frameworks of autism, Weak
Centrality coherence(WCC)theory and enhanced perceptual functioning(EPF)theory. In this paper, 30 participants took part and used the iPad
for drawing task, the responses of task performance and AQ questionnaire was collected. The results of this study support the EPF theory
and found that individual visual processing ability is positively correlated with social skill(p-=0.026), communication(p-=0.003)and attention
switching(p-=0.006)subscales of Autism Quotient(AQ)questionnaire, which suggests that the MTCF can replace the ROCF as the preferred
choice for testing individual visual processing ability in the drawing category.
