Peipei Wu

Abstract

As one item of China's intangible cultural heritage, the Twenty Four Solar Terms stand out amid China's rich cultural treasury. As a
distinct cultural symbol of China's agrarian civilization, they embody profound scientific and cultural connotations and serve as a prime embodiment of the outstanding achievements of Chinese civilization. As a vital component of Chinese culture, they encapsulate the wisdom of
the Chinese people. Accordingly, the English translation of the Twenty Four Solar Terms and their associated folk sayings carries far reaching
significance for Chinese culture to "go global". Centring on the English translation of the Twenty Four Solar Terms and their folk sayings and
taking "Jingzhe (Awakening of Insects)" as a case study, this translation practice report explores the aesthetic reproduction in the English rendering of texts on intangible cultural heritage under the framework of translation aesthetics from three dimensions: phonological beauty, accuracy oriented beauty and artistic conception beauty. Through the translation practice of the solar term "Jingzhe" and its relevant folk sayings,
this paper analyses how to effectively convey the aesthetic value of source language texts in target language renditions at lexical, syntactic and
cultural image levels. It aims to offer valuable references for translating the Twenty Four Solar Terms and comparable culture loaded words
and further facilitate the global dissemination of the aesthetic charm of Chinese culture.
