Research on the Reflection of Ecological Marxism on Modern Consumerism Lifestyle

Jiao Luo, Kun Wang

Abstract

Ecological Marxism holds that modern consumerism is constructed on the basis of the production mode of Western capitalist industrial civilization, essentially reflecting a phenomenon of alienated consumption that is unrelated to human real needs, causing peoples desires
and needs to be misplaced. Consumerism induces blind consumption and distorts peoples values by creating a large number of false needs.
Green lifestyle is the abandonment and transcendence of consumerism. By advocating the concept of sustainable development and sharing,
it breaks down the illusion of consumer needs, reconstructs their subjectivity and values, provides spiritual motivation for people to pursue a
good living environment, and also provides methodology for achieving harmonious coexistence between humans and nature.
