On the Influences of National Stereotypes on College Students Choices of Going Abroad in New Media Environment -- Taking Communication University of China, Nanjing as an Example
Abstract
Based on the study of students in Communication University of China, Nanjing, this paper discusses the influences of national stereotypes on students choices of going abroad in the new media environment. It is found that college students national stereotypes are mainly
affected by new media information, showing characteristics of one-sidedness and fragmentation, which further affects their willingness to go
abroad, choice of destination and length of stay. Positive national stereotypes can increase students willingness to go abroad, while negative
stereotypes may lead them to exclude some areas. Finally, the paper puts forward some suggestions to minimize negative national stereotypes
and promote rational choices of going abroad, while emphasizes the importance of educational intervention and self-reflection.
