Application of Hainan Regional Culture in Urban Renewal Landscape Design
Abstract
Free Trade Port development. As the "spiritual DNA" of cities, regional culture is crucial to prevent post-renewal homogenization. This study
examines four core cultural dimensions of HainanMarine Culture, Ethnic Minority Culture, Tropical Agricultural Culture, and Exiled Officials 'Culture. It identifies challenges including superficial cultural symbols, modernization gaps, and disconnects from public needs in urban
renewal landscapes. Three strategic approachesspatial storytelling, cultural reinterpretation, and functional integrationare proposed,
supported by case studies of Haikou's Qilou Old Street and Sanya's Tianya District. The research aims to provide theoretical frameworks and
practical pathways for creating Hainan's renewal-oriented urban landscapes that preserve historical memory, maintain distinctive features, and
foster human-centric warmth.
