Heterogeneous Age Effects in Elite Swimming Performance
Abstract
striking heterogeneity across event types: sprint events show positive age slopes, penalizing older athletes, while distance and technical events
exhibit negative slopes, favoring experienced competitors aged 24-28. These patterns challenge assumptions of universal age-related decline,
revealing that optimal age varies systematically with event characteristics. Findings have implications for talent identifi cation and career planning in competitive swimming.
