Decoding the Invisible Threat- Designing a Multi-Sensory Journey from Viral Invasion to Immune Defense

Ruomeng Ren

Abstract

This project reimagines public health communication by creating "The Flu Dialogues, " an immersive exhibition that transforms
abstract virology into a tangible, narrative journey. Moving beyond static displays, it employs bespoke tangible interfaces and ambient
visualizations across three acts: "The Intruder, " "The Battle Within, " and "The Shield." Staged as a living lab at the Ullens Center for
Contemporary Art, the project probes how speculative design and embodied interaction can foster deep, intuitive public understanding of
infl uenza and vaccine science. Our contribution is a novel design methodology that prioritizes experiential cognition to cultivate a more
biologically-literate society.
