Mapping Research Trends on Business Intelligence: A Bibliometric Review 2010 -2024

Yi Zhou

Abstract

In todays digital era, enterprises are encountering tremendous competitive pressure and an increasingly complicated market environment. To accommodate this transformation and attain the primary objective of cost reduction and efficiency improvement, digital transformation of enterprises has emerged as one of the crucial factors. During this process, business intelligence (BI), as a potent tool, is rapidly
ascending, offering enterprises scientific decision-making and strategic directions.
??This study offers a thorough bibliometric examination of the nascent topic of business intelligence. With an annual growth rate of more
than 30%, the authors analysis of 102 publications from the Web of Science database over a 9-year span indicates an increasing interest in BI.
Since theoretical solution papers make up the majority of these publications, BI is still primarily a theory with little practical application. This
work suggests that future studies should investigate the research outputs of BI using additional databases, such as Google Scholar, Scopus,
and SpringerLink, given the apparent limitation of gathering data from a single database.
