Research on Ecological and Aesthetic Balance in Modern Urban Landscape Design

Junhua Yu

Abstract

Modern urban landscape design must balance "ecological functions" and "aesthetic values" two elements that are not mutually exclusive but rather form an organic whole of mutual support and coexistence. This study examines contemporary urban landscapes to analyze
the core concepts and dialectical relationship between ecology and aesthetics. It identifies three prevalent design issues: "overemphasis on
form at the expense of ecology, " "prioritizing ecology over aesthetics, " and "disconnection between ecology and aesthetics." The paper proposes three balanced strategies: prioritizing ecological foundations, integrating aesthetic expressions with ecological principles, and harmonizing functionality with aesthetic appeal. Through case studies, the research demonstrates the feasibility of these approaches, aiming to provide
theoretical references and practical pathways for creating modern urban landscapes that achieve "ecological sustainability, visually appealing
environments, and human-centered design."
