Progress in the Mechanism of TCM Treatment Of Diabetic Gastroparesis

Jiandong Nong

Abstract

In recent years, the global prevalence of diabetes has steadily increased. Diabetic gastroparesis (DGP), a common late-stage complication of diabetes, significantly impairs patients quality of life. Current research indicates that the primary factors contributing to DGP
include hyperglycemia, dysregulated gastrointestinal hormone secretion, autonomic neuropathy, histological abnormalities, and immune
reactions. Typically, symptomatic treatments are administered alongside dietary and glycemic control; however, these treatments often result
in adverse effects such as vertebral reactions and arrhythmias. Numerous studies have demonstrated that certain treatments can markedly
enhance clinical efficacy and reduce adverse reactions. A comprehensive review of recent literature reveals that therapies aimed at increasing the number of Cajal interstitial cells, regulating gastrointestinal hormones, improving autonomic neuropathy, enhancing intestinal flora,
and modulating immune function are effective in managing DGP. Specifically, traditional Chinese medicine compounds and acupuncture
have been shown to effectively alleviate gastrointestinal symptoms, inhibit cell and neuronal apoptosis, regulate intestinal microecology,
and reduce inflammatory damage.
