From Intervention to Model: Application of Sand Tray Therapy in Children with Autism and Grounded Theory Analysis

Xinzhuo Chen

Abstract

Using a multiple baseline across subjects experimental design, the study involved sandplay interventions with three children aged 4-6
years diagnosed with autism. The intervention mechanisms were analyzed using grounded theory. The results indicated that sandplay therapy
significantly reduced repetitive stereotyped behaviors and social impairments in children with autism. Based on grounded theory, a mechanism model of sandplay intervention was constructed, showing that sandplay improves core symptoms by promoting secure attachment, social
abilities, cognitive development, and emotional regulation in children with autism. This study provides new Theoretical foundations and practical guidance for the treatment of children with autism.
