The Effect of Combined Treatment with Olanzapine and Aripiprazole on Schizophrenia and Analysis of TC, TG, and Fasting Plasma Glucose (FPG) Levels

Abstract


Objective: To explore the clinical efficacy of combined treatment with olanzapine and aripiprazole in patients with schizophrenia
and evaluate its impact on glucose and lipid metabolism. Methods: A retrospective selection was made of the data of 50 patients with schizophrenia admitted to the hospital from March 2024 to March 2025. The patients were divided into a control group (25 cases) and an observation group (25 cases) based on the difference in treatment methods. The control group received olanzapine monotherapy, while the observation
group received combined treatment with olanzapine and aripiprazole. The clinical efficacy, Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS),
fasting plasma glucose (FPG), insulin resistance index (HOMA-IR), triglycerides (TG), total cholesterol (TC), low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) were compared between the two groups. Results: The total clinical effective
rate of the observation group was higher than that of the control group (P < 0.05). After treatment, the PANSS scores of both groups decreased
compared to before, and the observation group had a relatively lower score (P < 0.05). After treatment, the FPG and HOMA-IR of both groups
improved to varying degrees, and the improvement in the observation group was more significant (P < 0.05). After treatment, the lipid indicators
of both groups improved, and the improvement in the observation group was particularly prominent (P < 0.05). Conclusion: The combined use
of olanzapine and aripiprazole in the treatment of schizophrenia has an excellent overall efficacy, can significantly improve the mental symptoms of patients, and has a regulatory effect on glucose and lipid metabolism.
