Abstract

Objective: This study aims to evaluate the clinical efficacy of modified Si Ni Fu Mai Decoction combined with ear acupressure therapy in alleviating anxiety symptoms in elderly patients with atrial fibrillation, and to explore its impact on patients' quality of life.
Methods: A total of 40 elderly patients with atrial fibrillation and anxiety were clinically collected and randomly grouped into a control group
and an observation group. All patients received sustained-release metoprolol succinate tablets to control heart rate and rivaroxaban tablets for
anticoagulant therapy. In the control group, patients additionally used flupentixol and melitracen tablets; while the observation group applied
modified Si Ni Fu Mai Decoction on this basis, combined with ear acupressure therapy. The entire treatment process lasted for four weeks,
observing two treatment cycles. During this period, the changes in Traditional Chinese medicine syndrome scores, Hamilton Anxiety Scale
(HAMA) scores, and European Quality of Life Five Dimensions Five Levels Scale (EQ-5D-5L) scores before and after treatment were assessed and compared between the two groups; adverse reactions were also recorded. Results: After treatment, both groups showed significant
reductions in Traditional Chinese medicine syndrome scores, HAMA scores, and EQ-5D-5L scores, with the improvement in the observation
group being significantly better than that in the control group, and the differences were statistically significant (P<0.01). The total effective
rate of improvement in Traditional Chinese medicine symptoms in the observation group was 94.44%, significantly higher than 52.62% in
the control group; the total effective rate for anxiety symptoms was 88.99%, markedly higher than 42.11% in the control group; the clinical total effective rate of electrocardiogram was 77.78%, significantly better than 26.32% in the control group; all these differences were
statistically significant (P<0.01). In terms of adverse reactions, no significant differences were observed between the two groups (P>0.05).
Conclusion: The use of modified Si Ni Fu Mai Decoction combined with ear acupressure therapy demonstrates significant clinical efficacy in
improving anxiety states, negative emotions, and quality of life in elderly patients with atrial fibrillation.
