Research Progress on the Synergistic Mechanism of GABAergic Neurons in the Preoptic Area of the Hypothalamus and Cholinergic System in the Basal Forebrain in Regulating the Switching of Sleep-Wakefulness
Abstract
the field of neuroscience. This article focuses on the collaborative mechanism between GABAergic neurons in the hypothalamic preoptic area
and the cholinergic system in the basal forebrain during sleep-wake transition. Firstly, it elaborates on the role of GABAergic neurons in the
hypothalamic preoptic area in promoting sleep and inhibiting neural activities related to awakening, as well as the crucial position of the basal forebrain cholinergic system in maintaining awakening. Then, it deeply analyzes the neural connections and signal transmission methods
between the two systems, and discusses how they achieve a smooth transition between sleep and awakening through a collaborative effect.
Studying the collaborative mechanism of these two systems is of great significance for in-depth understanding of the pathogenesis of sleep
disorders and the development of targeted treatment strategies.
