Dan Huang, Jiahui Sun, Tong Yan, Jialin Ye*

Abstract

Objective: To deeply explore the real dilemmas and coping experiences of young pediatric nurses in venipuncture, so as to provide
a reference for optimizing pediatric nursing training, improving venipuncture quality and relieving nurses' occupational pressure. Methods: A descriptive phenomenological research was conducted. From January to February 2026, 11 ward nurses in the pediatrics department of a Grade
A Class III hospital in South China were selected as research subjects, and one-on-one semi-structured in-depth interviews were carried out.
The Colaizzi 7-step analysis method was used to code, cluster and extract themes from the data. Results: Three themes of venipuncture dilemmas were extracted: restricted physical conditions of children, insufficient professional and psychological competence of nurses, and significant interference from the environment and family members; three themes of coping strategies were extracted: self-improvement of personal
skills and psychology, optimization of venipuncture operation procedures, and improvement of communication, collaboration and environment. Conclusion: Young pediatric nurses face multi-dimensional dilemmas in venipuncture from children, themselves and the environment.
Nursing managers should help young nurses improve their puncture skills and ensure the safety of pediatric intravenous therapy by means of
hierarchical training, psychological support, environmental optimization and collaborative management with family members.
