Ziyi Qiu, Shiqi Wang

Abstract

Objective: To explore the mediating role of self-control between Internet gaming addiction and loneliness. Methods: In March
2023, 322 college students from a university in Nanchang were assessed using the Internet Gaming Addiction Scale, Brief Self-Control Scale
(BSCS), and the UCLA Loneliness Scale-Version 3 (UCLA-3). Results: ?Internet gaming addiction (r = -0.373, P < 0.001) and loneliness
(r = -0.399, P < 0.001) were significantly negatively correlated with self-control, while Internet gaming addiction was significantly positively
correlated with loneliness (r = 0.259, P < 0.001); ?Self-control played a mediating role between Internet gaming addiction and loneliness,
accounting for 53.52% of the mediation effect. Conclusion: Internet gaming addiction can directly affect loneliness and also indirectly affect
