Sociolinguistic Analysis on the Names of Buildings: A Case Study of Anqing City, Anhui Province

Abstract


With the development of real estate industry in China, there are also a variety of property names. As a special language symbol, the
names of buildings not only undertake the economic function of promoting the sale of houses, but carries the historical imprint of social changes,
and it has become a hot issue concerned by all walks of life. At present, the research on real estate names mainly stays at the description of language characteristics and the discussion of naming rationales, ignoring the characteristics of the times and the social reasons behind names in different periods. By searching Tongcheng Fang Tianxia (https://tongcheng.fang.com/) and Anjuke (https://ai.anjuke.com/), this paper obtained 222
names in Tongcheng, and analyzed the unchanged and changing in the real estate names in the past 30 years from the perspective of sociolinguistics, in order to find the connection between names and social development, and provide guiding opinions for the later real estate naming.
