Zhe Song

Abstract

The construction of first-class disciplines is the mission of high-level industry-specific universities in the development of higher
education in the new era. In the context of the "Double First-Class" initiative, high-level industry-specific universities should cultivate disciplinary competitiveness as an effective approach and identify its developmental path through examining its formation process. This paper
focuses on clarifying the constituent elements of the discipline competitiveness of high-level industry characteristic universities and proposes
targeted strategies for cultivating disciplinary competitiveness from the perspectives of resources, environment, and capability. High-level
industry-specific universities can cultivate and enhance discipline competitiveness and promote the orderly expansion of discipline structure
through a "trinity" strategy: strengthening faculty through talent cultivation, clarifying strategic positioning to consolidate foundations and expand new areas, and enhancing top-level design to optimize structural layout.
