Comparative Study of Bilingual Education in International Schools -- The Case of HFI and SIAL

Abstract


International schools have expanded significantly over the past century, with bilingual education emerging as a key strategy for
balancing cultural identity and global competence. However, its implementation varies widely across contexts. The objective of this comparative case study is to explore how two international schools, Scuola Italiana a Londra (SIAL) and the International Department of the Affiliated
High School of South China Normal University (HFI), design and deliver bilingual programs. This paper argues that successful bilingual
education is not produced by a single model. Instead, it depends on the alignment of curriculum design, language policy, parental engagement,
and targeted support with learners internal motivation. Practical implications for curriculum planning, familyschool collaboration, and differentiated language support are discussed.
