Revision of the Midlevel Band Performance Rating Scale for Seventh-Grade Students' Chinese Ensemble Performance

Linlin Wang

Abstract

Objective: To revise the Year 7 subscale of the Midlevel Band Performance Rating Scale (MBPRS), renaming it the 'Assessment
Scale for Chinese Ensemble Performance Ability in Year 7 Students', and to validate its reliability and validity. Methods: The revised scale
was administered to 174 Year 7 students in a traditional Chinese music ensemble. Data underwent item analysis, exploratory factor analysis,
confirmatory factor analysis, and reliability assessment. Results: The revised scale comprises three dimensions, demonstrating good item
discrimination. Exploratory factor analysis identified three dimensions, cumulatively explaining 56.997% of total variance. Following model
refinement, all factor loadings in the confirmatory factor analysis exceeded 0.5. Data indicated the scale's construct validity met psychometric
requirements with satisfactory model fit. The internal consistency coefficient for the total scale was 0.827, with ? coefficients for each dimension ranging from 0.508 to 0.666, indicating good reliability. Conclusion: The revised Chinese version of the 'Assessment Scale for Chinese
Traditional Music Ensemble Performance Ability in Year 7 Students' demonstrates sound reliability and validity, serving as a suitable measurement tool for evaluating ensemble performance ability in this age group.
