Innovation of Teaching Methods of Music History in China and Foreign Countries from the Perspective of New Media

Hang Yin

Abstract

As a core foundational course for musicology, music education, and arts management majors in higher education, the history of
Chinese and Western music fulfills three essential missions: tracing the evolution of musical culture, cultivating aesthetic appreciation, and
preserving outstanding musical traditions. Amid rapid advancements in new media technologies and digital transformation in education,
traditional teaching methods face challenges including monotonous content, rigid approaches, limited interaction, and weak practical ap
plication, making it difficult to align with contemporary students cognitive habits and learning needs. This paper examines existing issues
in traditional music history teaching through a new media perspective, explores application pathways of new media technologies in re
source integration, pedagogical restructuring, innovative teaching scenarios, and evaluation system optimization, and proposes innovative
methods such as immersive teaching, blended learning, project-based learning, and digital evaluation. By integrating technological tools
like VR/AR, streaming media,AI audio analysis, and digital museums, the study constructs a new teaching system characterized by "tech
nology empowerment, humanistic core, student-centeredness, and practice-oriented approach." This framework provides theoretical refer
ences and practical insights for enhancing the quality of Chinese and Western music history education and advancing curriculum reforms
in music history theory courses.
