From Laboratory to Capital Market: Research on the Construction of Interdisciplinary Doctoral Training Mode --Taking the Integration of Chemistry and Securities Research as an Example

Xuechun Wang

Abstract

In the nascent economic landscape catalyzed by rapid technological revolution and systemic industrial upgrading, chemical doc
toral education is undergoing a critical transition from a purely academic orientation toward diversified, market-aligned career pathways. The
conventional monodisciplinary training paradigm is increasingly inadequate to satisfy the sophisticated demands for interdisciplinary high
level professionals who can navigate both molecular complexities and capital market dynamics. This study investigates the establishment of
an innovative interdisciplinary doctoral training model that synthesizes AI-driven data analytics with advanced financial research methodolo
gies, thereby addressing the structural disconnect between legacy academic systems and the specialized talent requirements of securities firms
industry research departments. Through a robust methodology encompassing literature synthesis, case studies, text mining, and in-depth in
terviews with senior sell-side analysts, chemical PhDs, and academic mentors, this research systematically identifies critical competency gaps
in algorithmic data processing, fiscal modeling, and commercial logic. It clarifies the burgeoning market mandate for professionals possessing
"academic depth + computational proficiency + industrial foresight" as their core competitive edge, ultimately providing a strategic blueprint
for cultivating the next generation of scientific-financial architects.
