Implementation of Project-driven Pedagogy in Vocational Undergraduate Visual Communication Design Teaching

Dahui Huang

Abstract

Vocational undergraduate Visual Communication Design aims to cultivate applied design talents with solid theoretical foundations
and strong hands-on skills. Under the traditional teaching method, it is prone to problems such as theory-practice misalignment and dimin
ished learner agency, failing to meet the requirements of industrial advancement for design practitioners. The project-driven pedagogy is car
ried out based on authentic projects, integrating the course content with industry practice closely. This pedagogy can effectively ignite learner
agency, enhance their hands-on competencies, teamwork spirit, and problem-solving capabilities. Grounding in the teaching characteristics of
vocational undergraduate visual communication design, this paper explores the primary problems and further studies how to better carry out
project-driven pedagogical reform, improve and perfect the corresponding teaching process, and establish a sound support system, aiming to
provide actionable insights for the educational and teaching reform of vocational undergraduate visual communication design and promote the
quality improvement of applied design talent cultivation.
