Teaching Innovation in Public Art Courses at Universities from the Perspective of Regional Culture

Yingying Huang

Abstract

In the context of new-era higher education, public art courses in universities play a crucial role in enhancing students' aesthetic literacy, fostering cultural confidence, and promoting comprehensive competency development. However, prevailing public art
curricula in certain universities exhibit homogenized content architectures, loco-cultural deficit, and fragmented practice teaching,
thereby undermining their holistic educational efficacy. As a vital component of fine traditional Chinese culture, regional culture
characterized by its distinct historicity, locality, and vernacular vitalityprovides abundant resources for innovating public art courses.
This paper starts from the necessity of integrating regional culture into the public art courses in universities, analyzes the challenges in
current course teaching, and proposes to construct a public art course teaching model with regional characteristics by restructuring the
curriculum content system, innovating teaching models, strengthening practice teaching, and optimizing evaluation mechanisms, aiming to improve the teaching quality of the courses and enhance students' cultural identity, and provide reference for the reform of public
art courses in universities.
