Construction and Practice of an Emergency-Response-Focused College English Smart Course: A Case Study of the Integrated Teaching of "Dinner for My Boyfriend"

Juan Zhao, Nannan Zhao

Abstract

Against the dual backdrop of "New Liberal Arts" development and the growing demand for emergency management talents, college English courses urgently need to shift from a "language tool" model to a "professionally integrated" one. Taking the two-session integrated teaching of "Dinner for My Boyfriend" as a case study, this paper proposes the "Three Readings of One Text" integrated teaching
model. It systematically demonstrates how cultural analysis, professional transfer, and competence cultivation are embedded in language
teaching. Through smart teaching methods such as problem-chain teaching, case jigsaw puzzles, and AI?driven shelter simulation, the
model effectively enhances students' language proficiency, cross?cultural sensitivity, and professional competence in emergency management. Teaching practice shows that this approach realizes the philosophy of "language as a bridge, profession as the tool, and education as
the foundation."
