The Applications and Challenges of Artificial Intelligence in Foreign Language Teaching Innovation in Higher Education

Yuanli Chen*

Abstract

This paper explores the current applications and challenges of artificial intelligence (AI) in the innovation of foreign language
teaching in higher education. The study examines how AI technologies, such as intelligent teaching platforms, AI chatbots, and adaptive
learning systems, are transforming traditional foreign language instruction. It discusses the integration of AI-driven blended learning,
flipped classrooms, and personalized learning paths that enhance student engagement and autonomy. However, challenges such as interdisciplinary integration, evaluation methods, data privacy, teacher role adaptation, and educational equity persist. The paper concludes
by highlighting the importance of addressing these challenges for maximizing AIs potential in enhancing foreign language teaching and
learning.
