Research on Strategies for Enhancing Core English Competencies in High School Students

Abstract


The core competencies in English refer to an individuals ability to effectively use the language for communication, learn, work, and
engage in cross-cultural communication in real life, which covers multiple dimensions such as language knowledge, language skills, cultural
awareness, and learning strategies. In the high school stage, the cultivation of English core competencies means going beyond traditional vocabulary memorization and grammar training, emphasizing communication skills, critical thinking, and cross-cultural adaptability in real-life
contexts. This requires teachers to integrate real-life scenarios into their teaching to stimulate students deep learning and autonomous thinking
abilities. At the same time, by tracking students English reading volume and the depth of the questions they raise during reading, the level of
language application and cognitive development of students can be quantitatively evaluated and enhanced.
