Creating a New Social Contract for Education: How Can Teachers Play a Role? -- An Interpretation Based on UNESCO Reports

Yaoyang Guo

Abstract

From 1972 to 2022, UNESCO released four global education reports, which have become the beacon for global educational reform and development. The four reports reflect the evolution of the teachers role: from knowledge transmitters to inspirers, from soloists to
accompanists, and then to social collective cause-oriented leaders. In reimagining the future of education with a new educational contract,
teachers play a core role in ensuring the right to education, consolidating the status of education as a public cause, and promoting educational
reform. Responding to the call for change, exploring the viable path for Chinese teachers can enhance the attractiveness of school space, build
an inclusive and collaborative teacher-student community, and further improve the professionalism of teachers, contributing Chinese teachers
wisdom to future global educational governance.
