Task Repetition and Working Memory in L2 Speech Performance: A Synthesis of Current Research

Abstract


This synthesis examines the relationship between task repetition and working memory capacity in second language speech performance. Current research indicates that the efficacy of task repetition is influenced by a learner's working memory capacity. Learners with
stronger working memory tend to perform better with immediate task repetition, whereas those with weaker working memory show greater
improvement when intervals are introduced between repetitions. These findings provide valuable insights for educators in designing personalised instructional strategies in second language classrooms.
