Cultivating Socialist Core Values in Children and Adolescents in the New Media Environment: Opportunities, Challenges, and Strategic Paths

Yiman Du

Abstract

In an era defined by the deep integration of new media into social life, the profound influence of this environment on the value formation of children and adolescents presents a significant educational challenge. This study, grounded in qualitative field research involving indepth interviews with children, adolescents, and parents from schools in Chengdu, systematically analyzes the opportunities and challenges
inherent in this new educational context. Findings indicate that new mediacharacterized by its immediacy, interactivity, and formal diversitypresents significant opportunities, including expanded communication channels, enriched interpretive methods, and innovations in educational models. However, these are counterbalanced by substantial challenges, notably the complexity of the communication environment, the
prevalence of adult-oriented discourse, and a persistent monotony in the forms of value-based content. This paper concludes by proposing a
systematic framework for innovative cultivation. This framework prioritizes the development of concrete, interactive new media products embedded in real-life contexts to promote value internalization; the systematic implementation of media literacy education to strengthen cultural
identity and critical thinking; the enhancement of legal supervision and "gatekeeper" capacities to optimize the communication ecology; and
the construction of a synergistic educational mechanism coordinating families, schools, and society.
