The Impact of Social Support Networks on Mental Well-being in Maritime Work Environment

Abstract


Seafarers serve as an important group maintaining global trade operations. Their work environment is characterized by closure,
monotony, and high risk. Prolonged exposure to such environment is prone to mental problems such as loneliness, anxiety, and burnout. So
cial support networks, as the key vessel for alleviating psychological stress and safeguarding mental well-being, play an irreplaceable role.
This paper integrates the exceptionality of the maritime work environment of seafarers, analyzes the composition typology of social support
networks, deeply explores their positive impact and potential limitations on the mental well-being of seafarers, and proposes optimization
pathways based on real-world work scenarios, aiming to provide theoretical and practical reference for improving the mental well-being of
seafarers and refining the safeguard systems for seafarers, and contribute to the high-quality development of the shipping industry.
