Vitamin D Level and its Relationship with Bone Mineral Density in Elderly Male Patients with Type 2 Diabetes

Shenglin He, Xiangyou *

Abstract

Objective: To explore the relationship between vitamin D level and bone mineral density in elderly male patients with type 2 diabetes. Methods: The experiment was conducted with the elderly male patients with type 2 diabetes who were diagnosed and treated in a hospital
in China from March 2021 to July 2023. 500 patients were randomly selected and divided into two experimental groups according to the degree of osteoporosis. Among them, non osteoporosis patients were divided into a control group, with 250 patients in the control group. Osteoporosis patients were divided into an experimental group, with 250 patients in the experimental group. The nutritional status of vitamin D of
the patients was comprehensively analyzed. At the same time, the fasting blood glucose, age, duration of disease, body mass index and other
parameters of the patients in the two experimental groups were compared. The relationship between vitamin D level and bone mineral density in
elderly male type 2 diabetes patients was comprehensively analyzed, and the risk factors of osteoporosis in elderly male type 2 diabetes patients
were explored. Results: The experimental study confirmed that among the 500 elderly male patients with type 2 diabetes, there would be a large
number of vitamin D deficiency, accounting for about 68% of the total, about 20% of the deficiency, and about 12% of the sufficiency. In addition,
the course of disease, age, and HbA1c levels of patients in the experimental group would be significantly higher than those of patients in the control group, and the difference between the two was statistically significant. According to statistics, vitamin D deficiency is an important risk factor
for osteoporosis in elderly male type 2 diabetes patients (P<0.05). Conclusion: The elderly male patients with type 2 diabetes will generally lack
vitamin D, and HbA1c will increase with the increase of age and course of disease. If patients lack vitamin D, they are prone to osteoporosis, so
there is a particularly close connection between vitamin D levels and bone mineral density in elderly men with type 2 diabetes.
