Conflicts between the Moralities of Different Roles

Yunqi Sun

Abstract

Social roles vary due to different social relationships. Social relationships themselves encompass fundamental moral requirements
and ethical values for individuals. Each role has its own set of role ethics that should be followed. For each person, role ethics are diverse.
Since individuals have different roles, their role ethics also differ, which may lead to conflicts in role ethics. For doctors, conflicts in role ethics may arise: moral conflicts between the doctor role and the family role, moral dilemmas between the doctor and teacher roles, and value
conflicts between the doctor and hospital manager roles. To address the issue of role ethics decision-making for doctors, the principle of
optimal value and the principle of life above all else are proposed for role ethics judgment, hoping to reconcile some conflicts in role ethics
decision-making.
