Research on the Shaping Effect of Algorithm Recommendation on Public News Cognition

Xi Huang

Abstract

In the intelligent media environment, algorithmic recommendations have replaced manual gatekeeping to dominate news distribution, reshaping the audience's information acquisition and cognitive patterns. Relying on data to precisely distribute content, algorithms enhance communication efficiency and meet diverse needs, while simultaneously being constrained by traffic-driven logic, giving rise to issues
such as echo chambers and cognitive polarization. This paper, grounded in the perspective of media ecology, analyzes the mechanisms and
pros and cons of algorithms' impact on audience cognition, and proposes governance strategies to help regulate intelligent news dissemination
and foster a healthy public opinion environment.
