Research on Key Technologies and Intelligent Development of Complete Switchgear in the Power Distribution Industry: A Case Study of Medium-Voltage Switchgear, Ring Main Units, and Low-Voltage Switchgear

Guozhen Liu

Abstract

Complete switchgear is a key component of modern power distribution systems, providing functions such as power distribution,
protection, control, and fault isolation. With the growth of smart grids, renewable energy integration, and digital substations, switchgear is
evolving toward intelligent, compact, environmentally friendly, and communication-enabled designs. Key technologies include advanced insulation and arc-extinguishing systems, temperature monitoring, partial-discharge detection, protection coordination, digital measurement, and
condition-based maintenance. Future development will rely on modular design, online monitoring, intelligent diagnostics, cybersecurity, and
integration with distribution automation systems, making intelligent switchgear an integrated electromechanical and digital platform rather
than a traditional electrical device.
