This study mainly explores the correlation between popular music listening and positive psychological qualities of college students. Through a questionnaire survey of 500 college students, the relationship between popular music listening habits (including music type preferences, listening scenes, listening duration, and other dimensions) and positive psychological qualities (covering optimism, empathy, resilience, self-efficacy, and other aspects) was analyzed. Research has found a close correlation between positive psychological qualities of college students and their behavior of listening to popular music. The dimension corelation between social skills and emotional regulation is the strongest, and college students who prefer soothing and uplifting pop music and maintain moderate listening time score higher in dimensions such as optimistic attitude, self-efficacy, and psychological resilience; There are certain differences in the impact of different listening scenarios (such as learning, leisure, sports, etc.) on positive psychological qualities. Listening to music during exercise has a significant effect on enhancing vitality and self-efficacy, while listening during leisure and relaxation has a prominent effect on relieving anxiety and enhancing empathy. This study provides new ideas for mental health education and aesthetic education in universities. By guiding college students to choose popular music reasonably and optimizing listening behavior, it helps them cultivate positive psychological qualities, promote mental health development, and deeply understand the important reference value of popular music for college students mental health, mental health education, and music therapy practice.
