The Implementation Strategy of Small Class Teaching

Linxuan Qiu

Abstract

In recent decades, Hong Kongs education system has undergone continuous reform, with class size reduction emerging as one of the most widely discussed topics. Numerous studies have examined the effectiveness of small-class teaching, among which the Tennessee StudentTeacher Achievement Ratio (STAR) project is one of the most notable. Conducted from 1985 to 1990, the STAR experiment investigated the impact of class size on student achievement in kindergarten through Grade 3. Its findings clearly indicated that students in smaller classes outperform those in regular or regular class with aide settings, particularly after the ffrst academic year.
