Interpreting Chinese Ethnic Music from the Perspective of Ethnomusicology

Ming Zeng

Abstract

When the Xintianyou of the Loess Plateau rends the heavens, and when the Yin Nao tones of the guqin diffuse through ink-wash landscapes, Chinese ethnic music has never been an isolated acoustic symbol. Chinese ethnic music is an integral part of Chinese civilization, carrying the historical memories, cultural genes, and emotional expressions of various ethnic groups. From the perspective of ethnic musicology, traditional nourishment is drawn from diverse forms of ethnic music, and compositional techniques such as the pentatonic scale are employed to embody the stylistic and temperamental characteristics of ethnic identity, thereby manifesting the unique musical imagery of Chinese ethnic music works.
