A Study on the Folk Culture-Loaded Words from the Perspective of Cultural Schema Theory -- Taking the Minford Translation of Liao Zhai Zhi Yi as an Example

Abstract

Liao Zhai Zhi Yi is the masterpiece of ancient Chinese classical tales written in classical Chinese. With its unique folk cultural perspective and rich folk traditions, it has become an important representative of Chinese classical literature. Based on Cultural Schema Theory
and taking the John Minford translation of Liao Zhai Zhi Yi as a case study, this research attempts to start from the four categories of material
folklore, social folklore, belief folklore and linguistic folklore to explore the cognitive mechanisms and practical strategies of translation under the three states of correspondence, conflict and absence of Chinese-English cultural schemas, conducting an in-depth analysis of the folk
culture-loaded vocabulary in the book and the translation strategies employed.
