Beyond Echo Chambers: How AIGC Short Videos Shape Critical Media Literacy Among Hong Kong and Macao Youth

Abstract


Artificial Intelligence Generated Content tech is moving fast and keeps changing how short video platforms spread stuff. Algorithmic recommendations boost how fast people find info but also make problems worse like info cocoons cognitive bias and trouble
checking if content is real which hits hard on young folks media smarts in Hong Kong and Macao. This study looks at how much value
there is in researching the way AIGC powered short video recommendations shape critical media cognition in this group. It shows the
problems with algorithmic recommendation, telling content apart, and how education collaboration works. The paper puts forward some
ways to make things better like tweaking how recommendation algorithms work boosting critical thinking skills and building up media
literacy approaches. These ideas aim to help young people in Hong Kong and Macao get better at handling media and support a healthier
online communication environment.
