Yushuang Wang

Abstract

This paper uses a quasi-natural experiment of the new Environmental Protection Law (New EPL), implemented in 2015, utilizing
panel data from "cities-listed enterprises" from 2011 to 2020. It employs the difference-in-difference (DID) method to explore the effect and
mechanism of the New EPL on enterprise environmental performance. The results show that the New EPL promotes enterprise environmental
performance. The New EPL encourages local governments to strengthen environmental law enforcement. It assists enterprises with digital
transformation and increases their environmental investments, fostering cooperative government-enterprise environment and enhancing performance. International talents exert positive moderating effect in this process.
