Entrepreneurship Models of Returning Rural-Origin College Graduates in the Context of Rural Revitalization: Evidence from a University in Western China

Yaling Wang, Dan Wang*

Abstract

Within the framework of Chinas rural revitalization strategy, the entrepreneurship of college graduates returning to their rural
hometowns has become a critical driver of local economic transformation. Drawing on questionnaire surveys and in-depth interviews with rural-origin graduates from a university in western China, this study examines their entrepreneurial status, models, and strategic pathways. The
findings reveal that their activities are highly localized, concentrating on rural e-commerce, agricultural production, livestock breeding, and
cultural tourism. Three entrepreneurial models are identified: opportunity-driven, resource-driven, and dual-path integration. However, these
ventures face persistent challenges, including limited access to financing, insufficient technical and professional guidance, and difficulties in
market expansion. To address these issues, the study proposes optimization strategies such as diversifying financing channels, strengthening
technical support, and innovating market promotion mechanisms. These insights aim to inform both policy design and practical implementation, thereby supporting the broader goals of the rural revitalization strategy.
