A Study on the Characteristics of Data Assets and Their Challenges to Traditional Accounting Recognition and Measurement Models

Abstract

As the digital economy continues to evolve, data has emerged as a critical production factor and core corporate asset, with its
accounting treatment becoming increasingly prominent. This study examines the unique characteristics of data assets—their intangible nature, the separation of cost and value, and complex ownership structures—and thoroughly analyzes the fundamental challenges they pose
to traditional accounting recognition and measurement models rooted in the industrial economy. In response to these challenges, this paper
proposes corresponding improvement recommendations. These aim to provide theoretical references for the timely evolution of accounting
standards, promote the fair reflection of data asset value in financial statements, and contribute to the high-quality development of the digital economy.
