The Impact of Smart Tourism Empowered by Digital Technologies on Tourist Experience and Satisfaction

Min Wu

Abstract

With the continuous advancement of digital technologies, smart tourism has become an important approach for tourism destinations
to improve service quality and competitiveness. Digital empowerment enables destinations to integrate technologies such as mobile internet,
data platforms, and intelligent service systems into tourism activities, thereby reshaping tourists' overall experience. However, empirical evidence on how smart tourism influences tourist satisfaction through experiential mechanisms remains limited. Based on survey data collected
from tourists who have used smart tourism services, this study examines the relationships among smart tourism, tourist experience, and tourist
satisfaction. The results indicate that smart tourism has a significant positive impact on tourist experience and tourist satisfaction. Tourist experience is also found to play a partial mediating role in the relationship between smart tourism and tourist satisfaction. These findings provide
empirical support for the role of digital empowerment in enhancing tourism experience and satisfaction, and offer practical insights for tourism destinations seeking to promote smart tourism development and improve visitor-oriented service performance.
