The Impact of Tourism on Tertiary Sector Growth in Shiyan: An Empirical Study
Abstract
with its distinctive geographical advantages and rich cultural heritage, boasts substantial potential for tourism-driven development. Using
a time-series dataset for Shiyan covering 2002-2022, this study empirically examines the impacts of tourism-related indicators on the gross
domestic product (GDP) of the tertiary sector. The results show that total tourism revenue, the number of travel agencies, the number of
star-rated hotels, and urban residents' disposable income all exert significant positive effects on tertiary-sector GDP growth, with disposable
income acting as the strongest determinant. Furthermore, this study tests the equilibrium relationship between domestic tourism revenue and
tertiary-sector GDP. The findings indicate a long-run equilibrium between the two variables and a unidirectional Granger causality: tertiarysector growth significantly drives tourism development, rather than the reverse.
