Effects of Different Light Intensities Coupled with Growth Differences of Porphyridium Cruentum and Its Preliminary Molecular Mechanism

Xinchen Zhao

Abstract

Porphyridium cruentum is a primitive unicellular red alga distributed in freshwater, seawater and moist soil. It synthesizes highvalue bioactive substances including phycobiliproteins, polysaccharides and polyunsaturated fatty acids. Light, a key environmental regulator,
modulates its growth and metabolite synthesis. Different light intensities and photoperiods affect bioactive compound accumulation and molecular responses. This study explores light environment impacts on P. cruentum's key growth indicators and biosynthesis of proteins, polysaccharides and lipids. It aims to confirm optimal growth conditions and optimized medium for cost reduction, growth cycle shortening and largescale cultivation. It also explores the underlying molecular mechanisms, laying a foundation for understanding its light signal responses.
