Design Strategy for an Intelligent Traffic Signal Control System Based on PLC

Abstract


With the continuous acceleration of urbanization, China's urban vehicle fleet has exceeded 300 million units, with first-tier cities
such as Beijing and Shanghai boasting fleets of 5.8 million and 5 million vehicles respectively. Traditional fixed-time traffic light control
systems can no longer effectively manage complex and dynamic traffic conditions. This paper focuses on designing an intelligent traffic signal control system based on PLC. It first elucidates the fundamental concepts of traffic signal control systems and PLC, then delves into key
design elements—including system objectives, overall architecture, hardware design, and software development. Through meticulous design,
the system achieves precise traffic signal control, adapts to varying traffic volumes across different time periods, enhances road efficiency, and
provides robust technical support for urban intelligent transportation infrastructure.
