Evaluation of the Importance of Bank Collapse Influencing Factors for Different River Patterns Based on Random Forest

Damazhou and Xiongjiazhou reaches in the Lower Jingjiang River as typical cases and constructs a Random Forest model based on multisource remote sensing images and measured hydrological and topographic data to objectively quantify the importance of eight factors, including relative thalweg position, slope ratio, and floodplain–channel elevation difference, in straight and curved channels. Results show that the
importance of bank collapse factors differs significantly between river patterns: in straight channels, relative thalweg position, slope ratio, and
revetment works are the key factors, while in curved channels, revetment works, slope ratio, and channel curvature have the greatest impact.
These findings provide a scientific basis for risk early warning and targeted prevention of bank collapse under different river patterns.
