Research on Building Modeling and Visualization Based on 3D Laser Scanning Technology

Hao Guo, Ting Xu, Chao Ren, HongYue Wang

Abstract

With the continuous deepening of urbanization, outstanding cultural relics and historical buildings carry significant historical and
cultural atmospheres. The digital protection of them has become a widely concerned issue. This paper is based on 3D laser scanning technology to conduct 3D modeling of the exterior of a library building in a certain school. Firstly, the point cloud data of the exterior of the library
was collected using the South Surveying SPL-500E 3D laser scanner, and the point cloud was initially processed using the SouthLidar pro
software, including point cloud stitching and conversion to las format. Secondly, the point cloud was further processed using the Trimble RealWorks software, including point cloud clipping and denoising. Finally, the SketchUp software was used to conduct 3D modeling based on
the point cloud. The experimental results show that 3D laser scanning technology can quickly and accurately obtain the surface information
of complex buildings, generate complete building models, and draw facade drawings of building groups, which is conducive to archiving and
providing data support for later renovations.
